The vineyards of Tenuta Di Vaira extend through the heart of the Bolgheri DOC territory, along Via Bolgherese, on the first hills in Località Grattamacco and in the area closest to the sea along Via Aurelia. Three distinct areas with different characteristics, all united by the unique balance between soils and microclimate that defines the Bolgheri terroir.
The main body of our vineyards, approximately 11 hectares, is located along Via Bolgherese, at the foot of the hills where the winery is also based. The alluvial soils have a medium-loose texture with sand, silt and gravel — pebbles and rock fragments — that improve drainage and warm the soil. These conditions allow balanced vine development and homogeneous grape ripening, giving the wines good concentration, structure and freshness.
In Località Grattamacco, on the first hills of Bolgheri, there are 1.5 hectares of vineyard characterised by soils richer in clay and mineral components, with a greater presence of gravel. More compact soils, capable of retaining moisture better and favouring more restrained vine growth. From these hillside vineyards come more concentrated and profound grapes, giving rise to our most structured, complex Bolgheri DOC wines with great ageing potential.
Another 1.5 hectares are located along Via Aurelia, in the area of Bolgheri closest to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soils are looser and sandier, well drained, and benefit from the constant presence of sea breezes. This microclimate favours grape health and enhances freshness, elegance and aromatic finesse.
