Bolgheri: a unique territory

In the heart of Tuscany, between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the gentle hills of the Costa degli Etruschi, Bolgheri is a small village of ancient charm, known worldwide for the extraordinary vocation of its territory for producing great red and white wines.

The Bolgheri DOC owes its international fame to an exceptional microclimate: constant sea breezes moderate temperatures throughout the year, while the hills protect the vineyards favouring slow, balanced grape ripening. To this are added soils rich in clay, limestone and minerals, capable of giving elegance, structure and great personality to Bolgheri wines.

The landscape of Bolgheri: from the sea to the hills

From the Tyrrhenian Sea to the gentle hills embracing Bolgheri, the landscape changes gradually and with it the soil too, giving rise to one of Italy's most fascinating and varied terroirs.

Near the coast, sandy and marine-origin soils prevail — light and well drained — giving the wines freshness and elegance. Moving inland, the soil becomes enriched with alluvial deposits, with a perfect balance of sand, silt, clay and gravel, creating ideal conditions for high-quality viticulture.

At the foot of the hills, finally, clay, limestone, galestro and sandstone become more prominent. These are more complex, mineral-rich soils that drive the vine roots to develop in depth in search of water and nutrients. It is here that the vineyards express their best character, structure, elegance and extraordinary ageing potential.

Bolgheri DOC wines: characteristics and grape varieties

It is not a single element that makes Bolgheri special, but the perfect harmony between its soil, microclimate and human touch, capable of transforming nature into excellence.

Every glass tells the story of an irreplaceable territory, where the richness of the soils gives rise to wines that express the full soul of Bolgheri.
